The Costa Blanca offers mile after mile of beautiful beaches and virtually year-round sunshine making it one of the most popular holiday destinations in Europe. Despite this, the Costa Blanca remains one of the most scenic areas of Spain where unspoilt fishing villages and historic towns lie between miles of white sandy beaches. Our villa is situated in the centre of the region on a spectacular part of the coast near Denia and close to the old Spanish town of Pego where pine forests and olive groves nestle between the mountains and the sea. To the north of Pego, along the coast, is Oliva and Gandia. Denia, Javea and Moraira to the south. Benidorm and its theme parks "Aqualandia" and "Terra Mitica" are approx 35 minutes drive from the villa, and the Safari Park "El Vergel" is only 10 minutes away.
Denia provides a true taste of Spanish life with its fishing boats in the harbour, overlooked by an age-old fort. In the town and on the seafront, there are restaurants and bars catering for all tastes with some bars staying open all night! Further along the coast is Javea, an old established resort. The dominating feature in Javea is Mount Montgo ''Elephant Mountain'' which protects the town and is responsible for its very mild climate. The town breaks down into three main areas, the old town, the port and Arenal beach, which is very shallow and safe for young children to swim in.
Within 10 minutes drive of the villa is Pego and the nearest sandy beach is less than 15 minutes drive away. Monte Pego also borders the Pego-Oliva Marsh Nature Park. It is possible to hire a boat to explore the marsh and wildlife. There are numerous golf courses in the vicinity; the closest golf course is situated in Oliva (approx 10 to 15 minutes drive). The region offers a wide range of small Spanish style restaurants and bars as well as horse riding. Walking is also possible in the hills and mountains which are criss-crossed by a myriad of tracks and paths. With care you can walk comfortably all year round, but undoubtedly the best time is Spring, when the hillsides are carpeted with a hugh variety of colourful and delicate flowers and herbs, providing a feast for butterflies and a great spectacle for walkers. Several walking books and maps are available at the tourist office in Pego, also information about daily Spanish street markets. The mountains around Pego have been cultivated with terraced vineyards, olive groves, almond trees and citrus groves. In this region there are many charming towns and villages, such as Benissa, Gata and the magnificent fortress town of Guadalest.
Pego is the nearest town to are villa. This is the town square where you can eat and drink "al fresco" until very late.
This picture of Els Poblets beach was taken in August, it is the closest beach to the villa, less than 15 minutes drive away. This stretch of beach goes on for several miles, from Denia all the way to Oliva.
This is the road that leads to Pego from our villa for shopping and markets, Pego has many old narrow streets, with that feeling of "real taste of Spain." !
